EGMONT VILLAGE.

The Egmont Village annual athletic sports were held on Thursday last, the weather being all that could be desired. The attendance was very good. The committee worked hard to make the day's outing as possible. All events were post entry, and all the prizes were trophies donated bv Inglewood and New Plymouth, business people. Mr. Baxter, of Egmont Village, donated a pig. which was sold and re-sold, renlising the sum of £3 8s fid. Mrs. :P. Ci. Olson was in charge of the soft drinks and biscuits booth, and Mrs. Olson, sen., was in charge of the jumble stall, both doing good business. Following are the results of the different events:—Maiden race: A. Anld 1. Schraeder 2. 100 yards handicap: Waterson 1, 11. Taylor 2. Running hi'jh jump: 0. H. Marsh 1, D. Egarr 2.' Stepping the chain: Ladies, Miss Nesbit 1; men. E. Daws 1. Sheep-guessing competition: W. Bishop 1. Pillow fight: J. Clicyne 1. Threading the needle race: •f. Hintz 1. Official race: A. Morton 1. Tug-of-war: J. Swan's team. The tea tables were in charge of Miss Nesbit, ably assisted by Mrs. L. Street, Miss 0. Heal, and other ladies, and they did a good business. 1 In t)ie evening a concert and dance was held, which was well patronised. Performers from Tnglewood and Mr. '•-'ole, of Veal Road, very kindly assisted. and gave some splendid items. The •myjramme was as follows: o\erture. f!. Marsh (violin) and Miss M. Marsh (piano); song, school children; song, Mr. Darlow (encored); song (comic), Mr. 11. Cole (encored); song, Mr. L. Sutherland: «mg, Miss Lang; recitation, Mr. Pen'■all; song, Mr. Cole (encored); song, ■Mr. Darlow; song, Mr. Earp; song, Mr. Price; song, Miss Lang; song, Mr. Tj. Sutherland; club swinging, Mr. Ponhall; song, Mr. Earp; tableaux, school children. The singing of the Xationa] Anthem concluded a very successful concert. Miss Nesbit, who prepared tlie children on very short notice, deserves credit for the manner in which they acquitted themselves. Mrs. ,T. Sutherland, G. Marsh and Miss M. Marsh provided the accompaniments for the different items, and Mr. fl. Marsh .supplied the music for the dance gratis, which lie has done for all patriotic concerts and dances. Mi. Baxter, as secretary of the club, bad a strenuous time and proved equal to the occasion. The chairman, Mr. A. Morton, thanked all those who had so kindly assisted in making the gathering such a success. I understand the Wounded Soldiers' Fund will benefit to the extent of £25 rs ft result of the day's proceedings.
