STRATFORD NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, March "2s. Stratford's contingent of "20 men leave by the mail train on Monday morning, and as the shopkeepers have decided to allow all their employees half an hour oil work, we look to a vif>ht royal sendoil to the gallant 15th Reinforcements. Barristers Spencc and' Macalister also leave on the same day for the noncommissioned ollicers' earn p. They are milking some saeriliee in leaving' their businesses at the call of duty. There are still scores of eligible (its who will not enlist, but there is a wintry time coming for some of the shirkers. Some complain thev are medically unfit, but will not sign a recruiting card and face the doctor. Sir Joseph Ward is expected in the district soon, and one or more Ministers will probably be at the great Soldiers' Day gathering on Easter Monday. The milk vendors have given notice of a rise in the price of milk to Is Sd per gallon from All Fools' Day onwards. Some of the children will suffer. One reason, I heard to-day, for tins rise is that there has been a bad winter in the North Sea and frosty weather is expected here in Stratford—the land of milk and honey. There is work here for the Cost of Living Commission. Business is as usual. Most people don't seem to realise there is a war on, except those who have paid the price and those whose boys are there. There is an unlimited demand for 2and 4-tootti owes, provided the price is reasonable. Fats have dropped a bit owing to the freezing works being full. rHurry up, Xew Plymouth, and get your works roady. You are bound to scoop a harvest.
