INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent). On Thursday the Tennis and-Croquet Club lield a most successful tournament in aid of the Patriotic Fund. Large entries were received and the courts were in splendid order. The weather conditions were not altogether favorable, but that did not prevent a good attendance of onlookers, the conditions of the tennis were 30 up, but darkness set in before the ladies' doubles could he completed, and -the semi-final and final arc to be played on Saturday in this event. The finals in the other events were as follows: Men's Doubles—.l. Sutherland and Willia.ms beat U'agstafl' and Gudgeon, SO—--20. Combined Doubles—Mrs. Hynee and Williams beat Miss Esse an«l Matthews, 32—30. The special for the veteran showing best form was won by Mr. Gudgeon. The prizes for the above were presented by Mesdames Matthews and Hymes, Mr. •(. Sutherland and the club. Sixteen players entered for the progressive croquet tournament, each player taking three turns, and the result was as follows: Mrs. Winfield a, 20, 9 (34), 1; Mr?. Oibbs, (1, 15, 10 (31), 2. The prizes for this event were donated by Mrs. .lacomb and Mrs. O'Carroll. "- An enjoyable afternoon tea was provided by the ladies, and about £3 10s is to be handed over to the Patriotic Committee as the result of the tournament.
The Red Cross committee are arranging for a monster social for Thursday next. Tf the weather is favorable a successful and pleasant evening is *«- sured,.
