RACE FOR FOOD WITH DOGS.
GERMAN METHODS OF BAITING RUSSIAN PRISONERS. New York, December 25. A race for food between hungry dog 3 and Russian prisoners is one of the sports which the Germans are accused of indulging in at the expense of their captives. The baiting of Russians by the Germans is arousing a storm of indignation throughout the Russian empire. Mr. Kasalewsky, a member of the Duma, says the New York Herald, has made a rppoj-t .on facts' which are declared to , been officially proven. He states: —. "Our enemies constantly use the word 'dog' when addressing Russian prisoners. One of onr men who was held in Eastern Prussia was exceedingly badly treated. He suffered from cold and hunger and resolved ,to escape. He made the attempt, but was captured and brought back. "As punishment an iron collar was put around his neck, and he was fastened by a chain in a dog's kennpl, There the prisoner had to live. His food was brought to him in a wooden bowl, exactly as it was brought to the dogs. The sergeant-major every time he saw him kicked him, saying; 'Back to your kennel, dog!' "In another prison camp in Prussia the prisoners were kept without food, and then one day they were taken out into the middle of the camp and a. large dish of meat was .placed in the centre of a ring which wa9 formed. At the same moment the starving prisoners and hungry dogs were let loose in a race towards the food. Men and dogs struggled for the meat, while the officarg and soldiers j* laxyjjliter at the jpitiable ai'ht."
