THE MATATUA.

SERIOUS LOSS TO MEAT SHIPPERS; PAPER SUPPLIES. ■Referring to the loss of the Matatua, the Prime Minister stated that unfortunately the vessel was one of the .uieat ships on the schedule for loading iu New Zealand in May, and her loss would be serious to shippers. It might not be a very difficult matter to get another vessel for the New Zealand trade, but it was no easy matter to get a refrigerated S'hip. As was fairly well known, th# newspaper proprietors in the Dominion were anxious about supplies of. paper,.-and the loss , of the, Matatua would cause uneasiness to some of them.' So serious was the trouble that an appeal was made to the Government for aid in obtaining a steamer to bring paper here. The freight rates from the east coast of America were five times as high as in pre-war times, but even at. these rates ships were net in ready supply. Mr. Massey said lie had been trying to arrange to have enough paper brought to New Zealand for our newspapers' needs, but his arrangements did not concern the Matatua's cargo. He thought that we should be able to get enough paper for the requirements of the newspapers, and that, the proprietors would not be compelled to reduce the size of their journals. KARBOL, sold in (id, Is and Is Gd bottles.—Sykes, Chemist.
