FATAL ACCIDENT.

TARATA FARMER KILLED. New Plymouth police have received word that Mr. Thomas Chumney, a wellknown farmer of Tarata, was found dead underneath his motor-car at the corner of the Dudley and Junction Road* early yesterday morning. The deceased had been attending a sale at Inglewood on Wednesday and left in the evening for Tarata. No further details have been received, but an inquest will be held this afternoon. . t . Our Stratford correspondent wired laat night:—Mr. Chumney left Inglewood at • 1 a.m. for Tarata. As Dr. Whetter wa» ' proceeding to Kainiata about 4 o'clock he found the car overturned at the ehaipi ,-corner of Dudley and Mountain Roads, about half-a-mile from Inglewood. De< 'ceased was under the. car and:Ma neeld was broken. On making examination oil the car it was discovered that one ot the tyres had burst, and this was pre* siunably the cause of the accident. De< ceased was a very old settler of Tarata, and had been a partner in the firm ot Chumney and Swann. He was about 52 years of age and was unmarried.
