IN BANKRUPTCY.

MEETING OF CREDITORS. . A meeting of; creditors ill the estate of Thomas Hornby Brown, butcher, T-la-\vera, was held last Friday before Mr. C. A. Budge, Deputy-Official Assignee. Bankrupt, in his filed statement, showed his liabilities to be £151!) ISs. Gel, and his total assets to be lfls, leaving a deficiency of £787 lfls (3d. The assets are. made up as follows:—Stock-in-trade £l4O, boolc, debts £2OO, furniture £4O and property £350. The bankrupt supplied the following written statement to tlie D.O.A.:—■ "About the month of August, 1!)!4, T bought from Mr. .T. E. Campbell a pork butcher's shop at Stratford, and at that time T had about £'2o. My son, my wife and myself worked- up a very good trade there. Then an opposition man from New Plymouth 'started a motordelivery ear and took a good deal of my trade. I then opened a shop in New Plymouth, putting my son in charge. Later I thought I saw a •good opening in TTawcra for a pork shop, so I started there. I took over Mr. Mowbray's shop and started a general butchery in Princes | street, as well as continuing the pork butchery in High street. About two l months after starting beef went up about 12s per 10011). and sheep 0s to 10s per bend. This left a loss on each head of beef of abont Bs, plus working expenses, and a profit of about (is per sheep, less working expenses. When I first started in Hawcra I was paying 3d per lb for meat for manufacturing purposes and a little later it went up to 4d and sd. Pork was then from 4y 2 d to sd, and for months past it has been 7d. For the past eight months 1 have been in very indifferent health, and while at Stratford I was on crutches for weeks. I perhaps should have ascertained my position earlier-, but I was hoping against hope that prices of stock would ease and T would make up arrears. I assure my creditors that I have done my very best, and I regret exceedingly the position 1 am placed in, It was resolved that the meeting be not open to the press. :- = I
