BIG BLAZE AT TAIHAPI; By Telegraph.—Press Association. Taihapc, Yesterday. On Simday morning, at 2.30, a lire was discovered in Green's (hairdresser and tobacconist) shop. It quickly spread t» Nicholls' Picture Theatre, Bonnor's (fruiterer), Davies' (solicitor) and A. M. Evan's old offices, all of which were totally destroyed. The premises af Bntehart. baker and confectioner, were badly damaged, and J. P. Aldridge's oSice and Gibbs' motor garage were slightly damaged. All the buildings destroyed were owned by T. Elliott Wilson, his total insurance being only, £4OO, in the Government office. Nicholls had £2OO on his picture plant in the Kew Zealand office, Green £IOO on his stocks, Davies £2OO, Bonnor was uninsured, and the other insurance is unobtainable. Divies' etrougroom is atil! standing, and it is believed that his documents ar« safe. The picture theatre will be rebuilt immediately. Mr. Wilson's loss o\er insurance exceeds £IOOO. FIRE OX A WRECK. THE OLD DEVON GUTTED. By Cable.—Press Association—Copyright Wellington, Yesterday. A mysterious fire occurred on the two-year-old wreck of the steamer Devon at Pencanow Head on Saturday night. The fire blazed furiously from end to end of the hull, and presented a brilliant spectacle. It is believed the vessel is completely gutted. The origin of the outbreak is a mystery.
