NOTABLE FILM PRODUCTIONS.
A representative of the Taranaki Amusements Company, during a recent visit to Wellington, took the opportunity of calling upon the directors of the New Zealand Picture Supplies, Ltd. Mr. E. J. Righton, the director, stated that the company had made excellent recent purchases (if film supply, and that the same would be available in due course for New Plymouth and screened in either the. Empire or Theatre Reyal. He stated that eighteen Famous Players pictures (which, include the output of Jesse K. Lasky, Belasco, and Daniel Frohman), were purchased, of which the most notable one that had been received up to the present was "Rags," a 4,500-foot picture, in which Mary Pickford, known as the "World's Sweetheart," took the name part. Other pictures in which [ Mary Pickford appears were "Mistress Nell," "The Dawn of To-morrow," and ■'Cinderella" —a picture taken after the pantomime of that name. Then again there wore the Marguerite Clark pictures. This young lady is known as the legitimate rival of Mary Pickford, and it is stated that in America Marguerite Clark has topped the poll which was taken in that country for the leading picture artist. Marguerite Clark appears in "The Crucible," "Gretna Green," and "The Goose Girl." The representative had an opportunity of seeing the picture "Gretna Green," which was then being screened in the Empress to crowded houses. A picture that has recently passed through Wellington was "My Old Dutch," in which Albert Chevalier, the well known coster impersonator of England, and Miss Florence. Turner, take the leading parts. This picture is stated to be the finest subject ever introduced to Australian audiences. Indeed, so great has been the success of this film that some of the rival film companies haw iput out on circuit • films of a similar name, but of an entirely different subject, which in every ease has tended to increase the desire of tbo public to see the real "My Old Dutch" picture. This film is yet another tribute to the excellence of the London Film Company's production. Recently a combination was formed in America to be known as "The Triangle," the managers of which are David W.' Griffith, the producer of "Home Sweet Home," "The Escape," and many other notable productions, Mark Sennet, the producer of the famous Keystone comedies, and Tom Ince, who has been director of, the New York Motion Pictures for many years. It is reported that both Chas. Chaplin and Syd. Chaplin | have joined the Triangle firm. "Cabiria," . acknowledged as the most stupendous filmic production to date is also in hand and will be screened in New Plymouth at an early date. Tittell Brune takes the leading part in a picture known as "Ester Redeemed," and this picture has just been released on the New Zealand circuit. Sir A. Conan Doyle's great masterpiece, "Brjgadier Gerard," has been produced ,with Mr. Lewis Waller, the wellknown London actor, and Miss Madge Titherage in the leading roles, and this picture will reach New Plymouth shortly. Many other notable productions are coming to hand each mail, and Mr. Righ ton considers the prospects are extremely bright for the leading picture houses*
