Mr. C. H. Poole, M.P. for Auckland West, is at present on a visit to Okato. Mr. Rathbone, accountant in the Napier branch of the Bank of N.Z., has been appointed manager at Opunake. Celonel R. J. Collins, C.M.G., Controller and Auditor-General af the Dominion, is at present on a visit to New Plymouth. He is accompanied by Mrs. Collins. The Rev. A. H. Colvile, who is exchanging pulpits with Rev. Richards, of, Auckland, leaves for the north, tomorrow. Mrs. Birch-,lohnstone has consented to play the name part in "San Toy," which is (,o be staged by the Gisborne Operatic Society in June next. Mr. H. H. Ward, of the teaching Btaff of the Napier Boys' High School, and formerly of New Plymouth, has been successful in obtaining the B.A. degree. At the Stratford Methodist Sunday School last week, Lance-Corporal C. Rubs was entertained at a farewell function and presented with a pair of field glasses and a purse'of sovereigns. At St. George's Church, Patea, on Thursday last, Mr. Cameron Masters, of Bandenong, Melbourne, was married to Miss Emily Ellen (Nellie), second daughter ef Mr. and Mrs. M. Carey, of Patea. The Argus understands that the Rev. H. White, »f the Eltham Methodist Church, is to be transferred to Otaki, and will he succeeded there by the Rev. A. 0. Harris. Mr. F. P. Corkill, of New Plymouth, has been elected a vice-president of the New Zealand Accountants' and Auditors' Association. Messrs Hugh Baily and R. Ellis will represent Taranaki on the ceuncil. The directors of the Farmers' Co-op. Organisation Society granted their general manager, Mr. G. A. Holder, three months' leave of absence on account of ill-health. Mr. Holder has been in very indifferent health recently, and will, under the doctor's advice, noiw take three months' complete rest and change. Lieut. O'Dowd, of Kapuni, who is home on leave prior to departing for the front, was on Friday evening the recipient of a case of pipes, presented at a largelyattended social in the Kapuni public hall. Mr. J. D. Crowley made the prescatation. On the previous evening Lieutenant O'Dowd was also farewelled at a social gathering at his parents' residence. Mrs. John Vile, senr., of Pahiatua, will celebrate her 100 th birthday in the month of May. The old lady, who has lived under five British Sovereigns, came to New Zealand with her husband and family sisty years ago. She has been confined /o her bed for some months past, but her friends hope that she may see the century out. There was a large gathering at the Inglewood school last Wednesday, when Mr, Stratford, prior to his departure for the training camp, waß presented with an address from the children, accompanied by a handsome dressing case, and lie alßo received a travelling rug and flask from the tenchers and committee, eulogistic references being made to his good work' at the school during his headmastership. The death is announced at Christchurch of Mr. Augustus J. E. Schwartz, formerly Inspector of Public Works in .Canterbury,'fatherof Mr. A.E.Schwartz, of Feilding. Tile deceased was born at Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1837. and educated at the Technical Institute. He arrived in New Zealand in 1867, and for many years was employed by the Public W»rks Department of the General Government.
