FROM HIGH COMMISSIONER. FORCE ROUTED IX EGYPI. - The High Commissioner reports from T -adon under date Feb. 27, 9.10 p.m.:— • Egypt an enemy column was at- ' '«<fted yesterday at Agagia, south-east of Barraai, by General Lukins, with a column consisting of South African Yeomanry and territorial artillery. The enemy was completely routed, and fled in disorder. Scattered parties are being pursued by our cavalry. Later on our aeroplanes reported them as being eight miles south-west of Agagia, and still being pursued? THE BATTLE NEAR VERDUN. The High Commissioner reports from London on Feb. 27, 5.30 p.m.:— In the region north of Verdun the French have continued to reinforce their positions. During the course of the night there was a storm, hut it made no change in the front attack. East of the Meuse quantities of snow are falling. Yesterday a heavy German attack was launched in the region of Haudiomont farm, east of the Poivre slope. It was broken by our artillery and machine-gun fire and counter-attacks. Another attempt, not le*B violent, was made in the region of Hardemont Wood, east of Douaumont, but it failed equally as at the Weevre. The withdrawal ordered of our outposts was effected, unhindered by the enemy. In the Vosges, after artillery preparation, the enemy attempted a strong attack at nightfall on a front of two kilometres, south-east of Celles, and the attack completely failed. This morning the action of our batteries against the enewy's revictualling depots at Stoseweir and north of Sinn»ter gave good results.
