The Wharf Laborers' Union, by a big majority, turned down a proposal to hold a stop-work meeting to protest | against six o'clock closing. "DEPUTATION TO MR. PEARCE. Sydney, Feb. 24. The Labor Council has appointed a deputation to ask Mr. Pearce to lift the liquor embargo. ft is stated that the unexpected publicity of Mr. Meagher's attack on Mr. Pearce has seriously prejudiced the ehanee9 of succeeding, and the motion will probably be withdrawn.
