MEETING IN WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Feb. 24 A meeting of the central council of ihe Order of St. John and of the New Zealand branch of the British Red Cross Society was held on February 23, his Excellency the Governor presiding. The following members were present Mrs. I. P. Luke, C. P. Powles, and W. Allan (Wellington), J, A. Fletcher (Christchurch), B. Tripp (Timaru), -T. P. Hays (Nelson), ,T E. Bone (Dunedin). Glending (Otago), Miss McLean (Southland). The following resolutions were carried unanimously: That Lieut.-Colonel W. H. S. Moorchouse acts as oflicer-in-charge of the central department in Wellington; that, in response to an appeal from his Excellency the Viceroy of India, bandages, surgical dressing, body belts, essence of beef, essence of mutton, and condensed milk be forwarded for use of troops in Mesopotamia; that the officer in charge of the central office be authorised, on the authority of the Governor, to settle matters of extreme urgency by calling a meeting of the central council, three being a quorum (ofic from centre), under the chairmanship of 'lis Excellency or a deputy-chair-man appointed by him- Uiat. expenditure to the amount of, say, £3OO per annum be authorised for executive expenses, to be apportioned equally among the mili. tary districts represented on the council. A joint war committee of the British Red (ron Society and the Order of St. John have forwarded to the Governor, at the instance of Lord Lansdowne, an expression of 'alio grateful thanks of the British lied '.'loss Society and the Order of St.. John for the most generous contributions of New Zealand to our fund for relieving the sick and wounded." The total sum subscribed in New Zealand was "£17,750 Ss lOd.
