NOTES BY "MOTUROA* (By Telegraph.—Special to Daily News.) < The Wangßimi autumn meeting opened in perfect weather. The attendance was large. The course. was very hard. Taranaki horses got away with a good share of the stakes, Husliman and Play Off winning races, while Welcome Nugget was only narrowly defeated in the Cup. Proceedings opened with the Stewards' Handicap, Square Deal being a hot favorite. He tried to win all the way but Princess Moutoa and Leonta gathered him in at the distance, the mare winning comfortably. Bonny Bream was slightly better backed than Gang 'Awa in the Petre Handicap, but the former was never prominent. Rang 'Awa made most of the running, but could not stall off a big run by Mahzoltov at the finish. Master Strowan carried a little more money than Collector and Flingot in the Westmere Hurdles, but Black Northern was caught in a galloping mood and won from start to finish. Collector finished fifth. Rongora and Florist monopolised the betting in the Tayforth Welter, but outsiders had the race to themselves. Penniless and Zola made the early running, the latter Scoring comfortably from Miss Kelly. The Wangamii Cup drew the. good field of eleven, Lady Penury, who had gone sore, being the only withdrawal. Colonel Soult was favorite in a good betting race, but Tangihou, El Gallo, and Master Lupin all had a big following. Monlu and Emperador led into the straight, but Multiply had displaced Emperadsr as they passed the stand. Mullinjar headed Moulu six furlongs from heme and along the back were followed by Multiply. Colonel Soult. Welcome Nugget, and Fmperador. Mullingar led i*to the straight, but was quickly passed*by Welcome Nugget and Meulu. Colonel Soult then got clear of trouble and putting in a magnificent run caught Welcome Nugget on the post. Moulu was close up third, and then came Tangihou and El Gallo.

Bjorneborg carried over half the investments in the Juvenile Handicap, but ITushmsn got out smartest, led all the way, and won easily. Madame Ristori finished well,' just beating the favorite. Ararat was a red-hot order in the, vViritoa Handicap. Florist led for five furlongs find then gave way to Ararat and Bronk Delaval, who fought out a great finish, Ararat just winning. The fine field of fourteen lined up for the Flying Handicap, Nones being the public's elect. Play Off, who delayed the start, eventually got a fly and although Nones put in a brilliant run in the straight the Hawera hors2 ju*t <jot there, paying a fine dividend. Ayon Park and Tree Lucerne finished well back. i.,'"- - OPUNAKE RACING CLTTB. At a committee meeting of the Opunake Racing Olub "it was decided to sub-W-t &§ iSPSSt SM& privileges for tale

by public auction at the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Company' horse fair, to be held on March 4. The publican's booth has been disposed of privately. Pcrjii'sion was granted the Kaponga Wounded Soldiers' Fund Committee to exhibit a motor car and of tickets nn same, but. no personal canvassing to be allowed. The Works Committee reported that the eonlrseffis were pushing on with the improvements, and expected to be. finished shortly. Messrs. Harrop and Aitken were appointed the e'.ub's furriers. This will not hnr private farriers from plying their trade on the course if they wish to do so.—Times.
