THE EARLY CLOSING MOVEMENT, By Cable.—Press Association— Copyright Sydney, Feb. 23. The early closing question is arousing intense public interest, and the newspapers are inundated with letters. A tattle royal is proceeding on the merits and demerit* of late and early closing, wet and dry canteens, and nationalisation. The caucus decision and Mr. Pearce's next move are anxiously awaited. Mr. Meagher's motion affecting the military measure is much criticised. Mr. Pearce declares that he does not think he will lose a moment's sleep because of the censure motion. Mr. Meagher explains his reason for his motion censuring Mr. Pearce. As Mr. Holman had announced his intention to introduce an Early Closing Bill on the reassembling of Parliament, he considered Mr. Pearee'g action calculated seronsly to einbam.ss the State Government. AN APPEAL TO THE STATES. Melbourne, Feb. 24. Mr. Pearce has announced that the Federal Government asked the New South Wales and Queensland Governments to provide for early closing, but no particular hour was mentioned except as regard the time when soldiers returned to camp.
