THE TESTING TIME.

A STRIKING SERMOI» PY THE ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY. ricceived Feb. 21, 5.0 p.m. London, Fob. 21. The Arehbbhop of Canterbury addressed a large congregation of oversea soldiers and others at Si. Margaret's Church, Westminster. He raid thai million.; of scattered member;, or our vast united Empire, at this time of the supreme crisis, must searching!}' scrutinise the foundation for industrial character. He was glad of the opportunity of addressing the Australians, New Zealandcrs, and Canadians, whe were worihy sons of the Empire. The i.\ hclo world was filled with udmiratim lor the;: young citizen soldiers and their deeds of j.-.-3'.vess were proving the ■launtlcssness of Chriiiiau manhood. While the Canadians were, in April earning imperishab'e honors on the bloodstained battlefield of Flanders, the men from the vast Commonwealth and •'Jominiof. in the Southern B".i were iculing the cliffs of Gallipoli, under a fearful fire, displaying sheer personal liravery that had since been growing in wondrousness. The Dominionites had been unhesitatingly glad to make the nacrifice, which continues strengthening the bond and uniting in a solid phalanx the men and women of the Empire in their purposeful resolve. "We are living," said the preacher, 'in an exciting hour of the Empire's hislory, and our minds may easily be confused by the bigness of events. Our main thought must be to carry the war to victory, but we must remember that the danger of failure lies largely in ourselves. Let us not forget the essentials in the building-up of character, in self-surrender and self-control. In this is the Empire's great testing time."
