A UNITED IRELAND. A STIRRING MANIFESTO. Received Feb. 20, 5.5 p.m. London, Feb. 19. Mr. John Redmond, in a manifesto to the Irish people, declared that the achievements of the huge Irish army have covered Ireland with glory before the world, ''North and south have vied with eaeh other in springing to arms, and, please Cod, the sacrifices made on the battlefield will form tiie safest bond for a united Irish nation. One duty remains to be fulfilled. We must stand by and maintain the Irish army at the front. We will not tolerate the idea that Irish regiments shall be reinforced except by Irish soldiers. The Irishmen in the trenches appeal to the fanners and laborers and artisans in Ireland not to de? —! them.''
CO3T OF THE WAR. A HUGE CREDIT VOTE. Received Feb. 20, 5.5 p.m. London, Feb. IS. The Daily Telegraph slates Unit Mr. Asquith on Monday will ask for the record war credit of 420 millions, which will meet requirements to the end of May. This brings the total war vote io £2,082,000,000. IMPORTATION OF FRUII. Received Feb. 20, 5.5 p.m. London, Feb. 10. Mr. Runciman received a fruit deputation, who said, that recognising the Government's need for tonnage, they were anxious to assist national interests, and therefore suggested that a certain number of steamers be licensed to import fruit. BISHOPS AND AIR REPRISALS. London, Feb. 18. On the motion of the Archbishop of. Canterbury the Upper House of Con-' vocation passed a resolution against reprisals. The Bishop of Bangor, moving the previous question, found no seconder. He contended that there were .practically no non-combatants. We should leave the effective conduct of the war to the soldiers and do nothing to weaken their action. If a hundred of our aeroplanes bombarded Frankfurt, the Germans would realise that sending Zeppelins was a blunder.
A WOMAN SPY. London, Feb. 18. Mr Samuel, In the House of Commons, said that a non-British woman spy was recently sentenced to death at the Old Bailey, but her sentence was commuted to penal servitude.
