TARANAKI PRESBYTERY.
The Taranaki Presbytery met on Thursday last at; Hawera, Rev. J. R. Shore being in the chair, The chairman welcomed Mr. Roseveare on his recovery, and Mr. Culliford, at present supplying Eltham. Rev. D. Mclvor, of Waverley, was appointed Moderator for the current year. In his absence Mr. Shore retained' the chair.
i The eler": read a letter from Mr. • Welsh, rendering his resignation of the charge of Opunake.. The congregation had been consulted and extract minutes of concurrence were read. On the motion of Messrs Howers and Pattison, it was agreed to accept the resignation with regret (to take effect from March 31, 1910). The Presbytery expressed its appreciation of the brotherliness and helpfulness of Mr. Welsh as a member of the Presbytery, and trusted that he would soon be settled in a stronger parish. Opunake lias its own difficulties on account of its small numerical strength, but the Presbytery is considering a scheme for extending its territory. >ilr. Howes, of Manaia, was appointed moderator during the vacancy. Mr. Lowery wrote, tendering his resignation of the parish of Eltham, on account of illness, and enclosing a doctor's certificate urging the need of absolute rest. The Presbtery, in accepting the resignation, was led in special prayer hv Messrs Pattison and Lilley, and expressed its profound sympathy with Mr. and Mrs. Lowery in the "sore trial through which they were passing, and prayed that he would soon be restored to his former health. Mr. Pattison was appointed interim moderator of Eltham during the vacancy, which dates from February 3, IRlfi.
Mr. Pattison was appointed moderator of Inglewood, Mr. Roscveare of Waitara, and Mr. Howes of Okato. Mr. Howes read the circular Issued in connection with Evangelist Cummings' mission, setting forth the itinerary.— Received.
A provisional scheme of rearrangement of Opunake, Kaponga and Eltham parishes was adopted, and a deputation, consisting of Messrs Pattison, Bridge and Howes, was appointed to visit the principal centres and confer with the congregations. The Presbytery balance-sheet was read and adopted.
The Presbytery meets again on April 6.
