NORTH TARANAKI PATRIOTIC LEAGUE. (From Our Own Correspondent). Waitara, Last Night. The weekly meeting of tile above League was held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening, his Worship the Mayor presiding, Mr. Kwen's motion was withdrawn-in favor of an amendment by Mr. Buchanan, who moved that ''Any member of the local branch of the League absenting himself from three consecutive meetings without a written apology shall be deemed to have forfeited his seat on the committee, and the matter lof appointing some person in his stead shall lie entirely at the discretion of the committee as a whole, and that the rule take ('fleet as from February 7. 191(7, but shall not apply to latlv members." llr. Buchanan also gave notice to move at the next meeting of the League, to be held on February 14: ''That the resolution carried at a meeting of the League on January 24, that an executive be formed, to consist of the president of the League as chairman, and two representatives from each branch, including Waitara, be rescinded." The matter of the Battle of the Bullion was brought up kv Mr. Jenkins, who moved that owing to the lack of provincial support as suggested, the scheme should he withdrawn. This was unanimously carried by the meeting. GENERAL NEWS. The men of this district going into Trenthani to jsin the 13th Reinforcements left by the mail train yesterday morning. The men, headed by the liand, were marched from the Drill Tlall to the station, where the Mayor, in a few wellchosen words, officially farewelled the "boys," after which cheers for the departing boys, the King, and the men at the front were heartily given. Private Harry Davis, of Waihi, who left with the sth Reinforcements and was invalided back, arrived home last Saturday. He states that "Sandy" MeKoy, whom he met at the front, is at present acting as an orderly at one of the military hospitals.
