■SHIPPING RATES INCREASED NEW CHARGES FOR WOOL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The shipping companies engaged in and England have increased the rates on all homeward-bound cargo as from the 2nd inst. Wool freight has been raised one-eighth of a penny, per pound, and other classes increased about 15 per cent. The new rates include a war surcharge. The rates for wool are now: Dumped greasy l%d per lb; slipe l ] / 2 d, washed l%d, with the usual ] / 4 d extra for undumped wool. Despite the increases in New Zealand rates they are still lower than the Australian. Passenger rates remain unchanged. It is notable that, despite the war, passenger bookings from New Zealand are exceptionally good.
