THE NEW LOAN. A SPLENDID SUCCESS. Sydney, Fob. 2. The war loan is a splendid success, the total subscriptions being £20,72.'!,000. Of 2j,022 subscribers, the Mutual Life and Citizens' Insurance Co. is top with one and a quarter millions. The A.M.P. Society, New South Wales and Commonwealth Banks, and the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney have subscribed one million each, and several other banks and large commercial concerns have taken £IOO,OOO to u quarter of a million each. The Colonial Sugar Company took £IOO,OOO. New South Wales alone subscribed £8,988,000; Victoria, £6,970.000. The Government accepts the whole amount.

Woodhouse. • Dangerously wounded: Privates ,1. E, Considine, E. Whiteside, Gunner W. H. Sheppard (all in hospital at Ghezireh), Private F. W. Moore (in hospital at Alexandria). Sergt. C. Hudson is pronounced out of danger. A MINISTER ENLISTf. Melbourne, Feb. 3. Mr. Ozzane, Federal Minister, has enlisted. ANTI-CONSCRIPTION LEAGUE. Sydney, Feb. 3. A meeting under the auspices of the Anti-Conscription League protested against the existing veiled conscription and commended the opposition of the New Zealand Federation of Labor. RIOTOUS SOLDIERS. Sydney, Feb. 3. There was a demonstration of soldiers at a restaurant in George Street, who resented demands for payment before they were served with what ai'e popularly known as "Kitchener feeds." The windows were smashed. Seven arrests were made.
