double fatality in a-WELL. ■ ■ «i% By Telegraph.—Press AesooiatiiMU *1 Timaru, Last Night. " A double fatality occurred this morn* mg on a farm near Otaio. Tw« Timaru men, brothers-in-law, named Vincent and Johnson, were sinking a well on a f»r». and had got down 180 feet. This morning one of the men went dawn, and giving no signal his mate also wens; to see what waß wrong. He also failed to signal, and a third man, Noble Johnston, was let down. He signalled "pull up," and he was brought up unconscious. Some precautions were taken to clear out the gas, and Johnston went down again, but lie was again overcome. A fireman's smoke helmet was sent for from Timaru, and, wearing this, Johnston again descended, and both bodies were brought up during the afternoon. Vincent was a married man with two children, and Johnson was a single man. An inquest will be held to-morrow,
