HAWERA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.): Hawera, Last NightA meeting of the Central Committee of the Sick and Wounded Fund.was held at the Council Chamber to-night, when the following were present: Mr. E. Dixon (Mayor) in the chair, Messrs Murdoch", Corrigan, Tonks, Bone, Willis, Parker, Hamilton, and Campbell (secretary). On the motion of Mr. Corrigan, seconded by Mr. Murdoek, it was decided to confine operations to the Hawera borough and county. Letters were received from the Elthain and Patea Committees accepting the suggestions relative to boundaries. Messrs Tonks, Murray, and Corrigan were appointed a sub-committee to divide the county into areas and suggest canvassers, and report. Messrs Halliwell, Welsh, Bone, Conroy, Suisted, and Campbell were appointed a sub-committee to arrange as to canvassing the borough. It was decided the notify the public that a canvass will be made during the month of February, and that Messrs Corrigan, Campbell and Dixon attend the meeting of the Normanby Committee on Tuesday evening to explain the working of the present effort. It was arranged that all sub-eommit-tees report at a meeting of the executive to be held on Friday evening. It was reported that tho prooeeds of the concert held in Mr. Dixon's shop amdunted to £lO, and that the total contributions to the fund now amounted to about £2OOO. A letter was received from the Egmont Racing Club, in reply to a communication sent to that "body on behalf of the Red Cross Fund, declining the request for permission to make a collection at the Taces. Tuft enclosing a cheque for £lO to the fund.
