UNWANTED SHIRKERS. RETURN FROM AMERICA. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. A number of men who lefi New Zealand some time ago, allegedly to avoid military service, returned from America by the Maitai yesterday. They stated that they found the conditions abroad less congenial than they had imagined. Some were so hard up that they approached the British .Minister in San Francisco for assistance, but his only offer was a trip to Canada to enable the men to enlist. SAMOAN .MEN RETURN. Auckland, Yesterday, The Talmic arrived from the Islands last night and brought 30 soldiers of the Samoan garrison. Three were invalided, 13 returned to join the reinforcements, and It were time expired men returned to report for orders. Captain Brodie, of Ilawke's Bay, was in charge of the party, whose names are: Sergeants Shirley, Wood and Simpson, Veterinary-Sergeant Glenn; Corporals Miller, Slioll and Swan; Lnnee-Corporal Robinson: Privates Brown, Davits. Duxcoll, Dubbons, Hazellhurst, Midglev, Reley. Simmons, Tosbock, Wortley, Upham, Patteson, Campbell, Johnson, A. R. ■Tones, R. Jones, lonian, McDonald, Morey, Paul, Simeon, and Stobo.

M. Nilson, farmer, of Whakamaruuiaru. WILLOCHRA'S CONTINGENT. Dunedin, Yesterday. The Willochra's northern contingent, comprising 107 men and six nurses, including Nurse Sinclair (formerly of New Plymouth hospital), who was in the Marquette disaster, went north on the second express to-day. The Minister of Defence accompanied them, ROUTE MARCHES' Wellington, Jan. 20. Next Saturday, 3000 troops will be engaged in route inarches at Auckland and Wellington. At Auckland 2000 men will parade, comprising the Fourth Battalion of the Rifle Brigade, the Thiro Maori Reinforcements, Ambulance Reinforcements, and Army Service Corps. The Thirteenth Reinforcements will commence mobilisation at Trentham and Featherston on February S. When this is completed there will be 4500 training at Trentham and flaOO at Featherston.
