WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) "vVaitara, Yesterday. The s.s. Essex, of the Federal Line of steamers, is due in the Roadstead about ■ 21st February, and will lift 17,500 carcases for Avonmouth and Liverpool. The forces taking part in the great "Battle of the Bullion" are getting in good fighting trim, and "silver bullets/' unless surrendered, will be captured without warning. All those wishing to join the forces are asked to hand in their names to Mr. Hallam, assistant secretary. "Ammunition" in any quantity will be acceptable from those unable to enter the firing line. The Red Cross Mart which was held in Mr. Jenkinson's building last Saturday was not up to its usual high standard, owing to vegetables, etc., net;-coming to hand as anticipated. The amount realised was nearly £S. The ladies who are instrumental in holding these market days, deserve every encouragement, and those who have saleable articles and vegetables to spare are asked io p Mn.d them along in time for the next market day.
