(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr. Frank Hutchcns left by the mail train on Saturday morning on his return to Sydney. The Sisters' of the Hawera and Manaia Convent Schools returned to-day from Wanganui. Sister Rose is still in charge at Hawera. Already a great number of racing enthusiasts have arrived in town for this week's meeting. Mr. E. Morrisey was nominated for the vacancy on the Borough Council by Messrs F. Gillanders and C. 0. Ekdahl. The local schools, re-open on" Tuesday. The many friends of Miss Knight, of the Kapai Tea Rooms, will regret to hoar that she is at present in the hospital, for the purpose of undergoing an operation. Hawera, Last Night. The annual meeting of the Egmont Sheep Dog Trial Club was held on Saturday night, Mr. B. C. Lysaght presiding over a small attendance. The annual report and balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed a credit of £3 14s 3d, Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. J. W. Buchanan; president. Mr. B. C. Lysaght: vice-presidents,same as last year, with the addition of Mr. R. Laws; committee, also the same, with Mr. H. Stringer. Mr. J. Nicol resigned the secretaryship, the committee being empowered to fill the position. The dates allotted for the next trials arc March 1, 2. and 3. The local National Reserve Rifle Club fired three matches on Saturday. Jn the first match—grouping at 100 yardsBaker, Blair^Ekdahl, Higham, Howlett. and Pratt each scored 20, Baker and Blair dividing first and second prizes. The next match, 200 yards, resulted: Ekdahl, 22, Ist; Baker,"']. 2nd; Murch, 21, 3rd; Blair 21, Howlett 21, Howlett 17, Edwards 15, Pratt 12. In the figure target match, 200 yards, Ekdahl, Pratt, Glasson, and Higham divided the first five prizes with four points each, Foster, Murch, Howlett, Baker, and Binnercombe dividing the sixth and seventh money. There were seven,prizes in each class. Glasson gave a special prize, which was divided amongst the winners.
