DISTRICT NEWS.

WAREA. (From a Correspondent). The Cape Egmont Horticultural Show has been fixed for March 10. The date is rather late, but the number of other fixtures for the beginning of March make this unavoidable. March 1 was first thought of, but the Taranaki Agricultural Society fixed their show for this date. The eighth was next suggested, but was taken by the Normanby Horticultural Society for their Show. The ninth was proposed, but was taken by the New Plymouth people for the grand wind-up day of the carnival, so that finally the Cape Egmont Society's Show was fixed for the 10th. The nett proceeds of the show are again to be given to the Belgian Relief Fund, and it is hoped that the result will be at'least equal to that of last year, when about £22 was handed over |o the fund. SIA'KETAWA. (From Our Own Correspondent). Things pertaining to farming have been fairly brisk lately. The shortage of labor for preparing ground has necessitated extra hours being put in. A plethora of grass feed is responsible for the cows keeping up the milk supply. The drop that is usually the case at this time of the year in many localities is not evident to any great extent in this district. Mr. Wm. Wheeler, of Durham road, has already collected a large number of slag and manure bags for forwarding to the Defence Department. The boulder supplies for the by-roads are at present stacked in large heaps and await the arrival of the Moa Road Board's crusher and roller, which, I am given to understand, should be in commission some time next month.

Another attempt is being made to inaugurate a postal delivery for the Maketawa district, and I understand a branch is likely to be opened in connection with the Durham creamery. The Taranaki County Council foremen and a gang of casual labor are at present busy grading the two hills between the Norfolk and Rugby roads.
