FIRES.
BIG BLAZE AT NAPIER. TIMBER MILL DESTROYED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Jan. 27. A serious fire occurred at Port Ahuriri last night, when Bull Bros.' timber mill, stables, much seasoned timber, and a fotir-roomed cottage were destroyed. Luckily the wind carried .the heat and sparks across the lagoon, and this probably saved a whole street \if small houses. Two horses in the stable perished. It \va? impossible to reach one, but the other was secured only to collapse from suffocation at the stable door, where it was burnt to a cinder. The origin of I lie outbreak is a nmterv. The damage is roughly £1.1,000. ' The total insurances were jCIUSO in the Standard ■Office.
