WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE'S EFFORT. FOR COMFORT OF "OUR BOYS." Owing to ■ the damp weather the attendance at Kawaroa Park yesterday afternoon, at. the gathering inaugurated by the Women's Patriotic League for the purpose of raising funds to purchase materials wherewith to make comforts for our boys at the front, was not very Jargely attended. Still, many visitors, among whom the fair sex predominated, wended their way to the Park, the committee of which had willingly granted the .League, free of charge, the use of the grounds and all appurtenances for the gathering, and it was a pity that Jupiter Pluvius did not smile more kindly on the affair. Mrs. C. 'H. Burgess (Mayoress, and president of the Women's Patriotic League), with her committee, had all arrangements in perfect order. Considering the comparatively small attendance business at the various stalls was brisk, and the net return of £l4 3s must be deemed very satisfactory. The kiosk, where afternoon tea was served, was daintily decorated with flowers, ferns, and flags, and on the verandah delightful music, was supplied by Mrs. Woods' orchestra (Mrs. Woods, piano; Messrs R. Murphy and J, Henrichs). Those in charge gf and in attendance at the stalls, etc., were:—Tea: Mesdames C. H. Burgess, Penn, H. Stocker, G. Neil, Dinnis, Oliver, Hooker, Ward, Stansill, Foote, Baker, H, Hill, Misses Pardy, Avery, White, and Pelham,

Sweets: Mrs. P. Blundell. Fruit salad: Mesdames Ewing, Chappell, W. Ambury, and H. Smart. Ice cream and soft drinks: Mesdames P. S. Johns and A. Robertson, Misses Gower (2). "Kaiser Bill," skittles and darts: Mesdames Ebberlet and Haselcr. At a committee meeting held at the conclusion of the gala it was decided to hold a grand promenade concert in the park to-night, when it is hoped to dispose of the vast amount of gifts that were not disposed of yestirday.
