TRADE WITH HOLLAND.
A QUESTION FOR THE MINISTER. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Jan, 2(1. The presence of the big Dutch steamer Riouw in Wellington harbor has c»u«ed some questions to be asked regarding the attitude of the Government towards trade with the Netherlands. The Riouw is under charter to the A. and A. Line at the present time, but she bears oil her sides the marks of neutrality that are intended to protect her froni_ the submarines in fhe Channel nnd North Sea, and shippers have asked if there is any possibility of portions of her cargo finding their way to the Netherlands and thence to Germany. Australia has prohibited the export of goods to the Netherlands during the course of the war,' but New Zealand has not gone as far as that. A regulation gazetted last month prohibited export ■to the Netherlands without the consent of the Minister for Customs. The Customs Department is informed that tbe Riouw is loading for Australian ports, and that the regulation, therefore, do«s not require to be invoked. The matter will be brought under the' notice o.f the .Minister of Customs on his return to Welliugto.il.
