BOWLING CARNIVAL.

TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. SECOND DAY'S PLAY. Weather conditions yesterday were not all that could be desired for'bowling, especially as the afternoon advanced when fine showers prevailed, though not sufficient to impede plav except for a short interval. Although the greens were considerably affected there were a number of good heads, showing that the visitors were getting familiar with the strength of the turf. There was more driving and burnt heads than on the opening day, while at one rink the small score of two was put up by a competing team. A marked improvement in the the drawing was noticeable, some very pretty shots being played. Advantage was taken of the presence of i, large number of howlers !n the town to convene a meeting which was

held list night at the Town Hall, Mr. W. A. Parkinson, president of the Taranaki Bowling Centre, being in the chair. The attendance was only moderate. In opening the proceedings, the chairman stated that as there had been lio general meeting of Taranaki bowlers for three years, it was deemed advisable to call a meeting so as to give an opportunity for discussing any matters of interest concerning bowling, as well as for criticising the action of the executive and offering suggestions relative to the game. Some discussion took place concerning the banner competitions, and it was suggested that they should bo abolished, also that the banner might be sold for the benefit of the patriotic, fund, but no action was taken in the matter. ' In connection with the Centre's fund for wounded soldiers, the executive was authorised to forward £2"> to the medical offieer in charge of the No. 2 Base Hospital for New Zealanders at Cairo. The services of the Centre secretary (Mr. 0. N. Firth) were highly eulogised. and he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
