AN ETON BOY'S FORESIGHT.
When a boy of ]5 at Eton, in 100!) (says the London Times of December 3), Second-Lieutenant. Gareth Hamilton Fletcher, of the 3rd Grenadier Guards, who fell last January, and of whom a biographical notice appeared in the Times of October 15, wrote a remarkable letter to his mother, in which he prophesied the war and expressed the hope that he would be old enoiurh to fight for his country. This letter, which is published in (he current issue of the Eton College Chronicle, is as follows: "I have just been reading about our Navy in the Daily Graphic. Why are we deceived into thinking that Germany really means well to us and is not every day disputing which is the best of many ways of wiping us out. of the. map without a struggle? We are not reallv deceived, we only say so because it'is a good excuse and we would rather go and a game of golf or have a day's hunting. What fools we are (especially myself!). Our only chance is to wake up, and who is going to wake us tip? There must be somebody. I wish he would show himself before it is too late. And God grant I may be old enough to fight for my country when the ii»> /«»«. 0- 1 help us 1"
