A Sydney cable announces the deaths of Mr. George Titheradge, the wellknown veteran notor, and of Mr. Sam Smith, 11 prominent and former member of Parliament.

Captain Backhand, of the schooner C. 8. Holmes, -who has been on a tour through the North Island, accompanied by Mrs. and Miea Backland, returned to New Plymouth yesterday.
A cable message hq* been received from Quartermaster-Sergeant Bollinger, of ~So\v Plymouth, stating that he is well, and stationed at Ismaila, on the Suez Canal. . , .
