EFFECTIVE BOMBARDMENT. EXPLOSION NEAR YPRES. ~ .-■ ■.' ' »i;' Received Jan. 23, 5.5 p.m. Amsterdam, Jan. 22. The Echo do Beige says that the re-' cent British bombardment of the Belgian coast seriously damaged a military building, and there were numerous casualties among the soldiers. Thirty-two German soldien were killed and wounded in an explosion near Ynres, BRAVE JACK TARS. HAVE A TURN IN THE TRENCHES, Received Jan. 23, 5.3 p.m. London, Jan. 22. The Press Bureau states that a party of bluejackets insisted on a visit to the British front in France. While in the front line of trenches the enemy exploded several mines and the. local' position was critical. Two of the bluejackets, seeing a Vickera gun knocked out, manned it. They have been awarded Distinguished Service Medals. Jfany of the seamen secured rifles and the rest' helped the wounded, HIGT COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. Wellington, Last Night. The High' Commissioner reports under date, London, 23rd Jan, 12.20 a.m.:— Fairly violent artillery duels prevailed throughout the front. Our fire has been effective, north of the Aisne, a 7 Berryaubac, in Lorraine, and the Vosges.
