The newspapers publish Mr. Ross' account of the Christmas Day fighting at Mersa-Matruh wherein the Sikhs and the New Zealanders dashingly charged down, across a donga, under the, enemy's fusilado. The Sikhs' great courage won the New Zealanders' admiration. Finally, the enemy were ejected at the bayonet's point. The New Zealanders' casualties were seventy.
