RUSSIA'S TASK.
A WAITING RACE TRADE WITH RUSSIAPetrograd, Jan. 'IS. Sir fieorge Buchanan, British Ambassador at Petrograd, addressing the English colony, said the Allies werer riding, a waiting race, as they had greater staying power than Germany. The Allies were going to win, at whatever cost. It was useless for any craven voice to favor peace. He urged Britishers to cater for the vast Russian trade. 'Both Russia and Britain should erect a harrier against German trade encroachment IN GALICIA AUSTRIAN'S CLAIM SUCCESS. Amsterdam, Jan. 19. An Austrian communique says that tlie great battle on the east Galieian and Bessarabian frontier, lasting three, weeks, has ended. We were completely victorious on the entire 120-kiloinetres : (75 miles) front against superior forces. The enemy sacrificed 17,000 dead and wounded and is now awaiting, reinforcements.
