WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Jan. 19. DROWNING FATALITY. A gloom was cast over the town last evening when news was received of the death of Miss Thelma Trim. It appears that Miss Trim, in company with the Misses Jnry and Miss McMonagle, were surf-bathing. and she had gone out to. the sand-spit at low water mark and forgotten that the tide was coming in. Whilst endeavoring to reach the shore she got into difficulties. Two boys, Ernest Jenkins a nd Douglas Telfar, were bathing at the time, and came to the assistance of the girls and managed to get them to the beach. Miss Trim fared tne worst, being unconscious when rescued. and was immediately taken to her home, where it was found necessary to have her taken to the hospital, 'but 011 the way she expired. The little girl was a favorite with all, and it is a great pity that such a young life should be cut short. The parents have the sympathy of a large circle of friends In their sad bereavement, A sacred concert will be given by the band on Sunday afternoon next, under the pine trees below the freezing works. The ranks of the band have been strongly reinforced by a number of old members, who have shown their public spirit by re-joining, ar.d the public can be assured of being treated to a programme of well-rendered music.
