TOTAL CASUALTIES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. ' Wellington, Last Night. A return issued by the Defence Department to-day shows that up to and including lists published on January 17 the total number of casualties reported in connection with the New Zealand expeditionary forces was 8156, made up as follows:
THE ULIMAROA TAKEN FOR TRAX-SPORT PURPOSES. Wellington, Yesterday. The steamer, Ulimaroa lias been taken over by the Government for transport purposes. The Minister for 'Defence to-day explained that the necessities of the war compelled the Government to find more transports for troops, and every possible solution of the problem had been thought out. They could not take more liners, owing to the necessity for finding transport for thr frozen meat and wool which was reqst- " »t Home.
