THE KAISER'S ILLNESS. FEVER SUPERVENES. London, Jan, 14. English newspapers make a feature of the Kaiser's illness. The Kaiser repeatedly promised personally to read a speech to the Prussian Diet, but was unable to do so. It is reported that fever has supervened. CONTRADICTORY REPORTS. A BIRTHDAY MESSAGE. THE 1 USUAL BLASPHEMY, Received Jan. Mi, 11 p.m. London, Jan. IG. Reports of the Kaiser's illness remain contradictory. A message from Zurich asserls (hat i 4 is more serious, and doctors differ in their diagnoses. Reports from Berlin minimise the illness. Some say that it is a persistent catarrahal cold, while others adhere to the carbuncle story. All, however, agree lh.it the patient finds it a difficulty to throw off the illness, owing (o mental and physical strain. His birthday message is in the usual exulted key. He says: The war was forced in us by our enemies in a spirit of envy and hatred. liny God accept the heavy sacrifices we have joyfully offered on the altar of the Fatherland." The Kaiser asks the people to dispense with festivities and to offer loyal prayers.
