HAWERA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Hawera, Yesterday. Mr. Cnmmane's many friends will be pleased to know that lie has made an excellent recovery after his recent operation, and is now able to be about again. Sergeant-Mayor Bale, instructor to the Engineers Corps at Trentham, is in Hawera on a holiday. Dean Power returned home again by the mail last evening. Ah- Hunger, the newly-appointed manager of the United Friendly Societies' Dispensary arrived on Thursday's mail, accompanied with his wife. Mr. E. Dixon purposes having a piano recital in his new shop in the interests of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Mr. Frank Hutchens, who is over on a visit from Sydney, is assisting. Last Tuesday evening, a committee of (lie South Taranaki Winter Show met their architect, Mr. Duffill, in connection with preparing plans for the proposed additions to their present buildings. Already a good deal of space has been booked for the next show, and the executive recognise that it is desirable to try and eopo for the increasing demand of exhibitors. To-day a conference is being held of dairy factory managers in f.he district and representatives of the Winter Show to draft the dairy schedule for the next function. Nurse Millar, sister of Mrs, A. S. Browne, leaves with the staff on the hospital ship Maheno.
