RUSSIA'S TASK.
THE OFFENSIVE HALTS. ITS PRESENT OBJECT ATTAINED. "S Received Jan. 13, 7.30 p.m. Petrograd, Jan. 12. The Russians' offensive on the southern front is suspended at present, as it has achieved its object in diverting the pressure in France and the Balkans. The enemy having brought up reinforcements it is therefore inexpedient to press on further. The Austro-German losses in the last three weeks amount to from seventy to one hundred thousand. The enemy's efforts to dislodge us at Chartorysk failed. ~
