PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.
ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Parihaka Road Board was held at Rahotu yesterday, when there were present: Messrs Jas. Young (chairman), S. Willoughby, G. Holmes, T. Harvey, and A. Cassio. ( FOREMAN'S REPORT. The foreman (Mr. J. P. Kennedy), reported that he had inspected the lower end of the Tipoko Road. Eighteen chains required forming, re-making, and filling, two pipe culverts and outlet drains at a cost of £27. The gorse on the road would be cleared at once by the adjoining owners. Thirty chain of drain on the upper Kahui Road had been cleaned out at a cost of ,Cfi. An 18-inch culvert had been placed on the Ngariki Road. The top end of the road had been repaired and somt of the hills had been water-tabled. He recommended that 100 yards of boulder stone should be carted on! of the river so at to be crushed by the County crusher, when in that district. Repairs to the Witeora Road were Hearing completion. This road was much worn out and required a large quantify of metal for the necessary repairs. The 0-inch pipe culvert had been replaced by 12-inch pipes at a crossing on the lower Kahui Road. Maintenance work was being done on the upper Waituka Road. Lower and upper Pungarehu, Warea, Bayly. Stent, and Paori Roads had been repaired. Thirty-six 18-ineh and five 12-ineh pipes had been sold during the niontli.
The Ngariki Road metal was left in the hands of the overseer to arrange, and it was resolved to apply to the Egmont County Council for use of the crusher. STRAYING CATTLE. The overseer reported that during the month two eases of cattle straying had been taken by the Board's staff. It was resolved that flic overseer should institute proceedings at the next Opunake court against the owners. SHAIA ROAD. It was resolved to give settlers on the Ihaia lioad notice to remove sates from oil' the roads within three months, failing which they will be removed by the Board at the owner's ;•-.peii.se. Cr. Harvey said that some of Ihe settlers required work done on the upper portion of the Road. The chairman stated that until al! gates were removed the Board could not consider the matter. GENERAL. The clerk stnted that rates amounting to over .C9OO had been received since last meeting. The chairman reported that the Egmont County Council had agreed to make good any damage caused, by the Ngariki Road by county contractors. Mr. A. Mouldy drew attention to the unsatisfactory state of a culvert on the Te Poka Road, it required replacing and also lowering. Left in the hands of the foreman to arrange with the understanding that the culvert will be placed at the level required, provided the applicant deepens the drain. Mr. Cassio drew attention to the rough state of the Warea Road. Othet members considered that various roads were in n rough condition, due to the dry weather causing the stone to work loose, The chairman was authorised to interview, Mr A. TT. Johnstone, re the Pungarehu Road deviation. Accounts amounting to £177 Os Od were passed for payment.
