NEW ZEALAND CASUALTIES. NEARLY TWO THOUSAND DEAD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, January 10. The official return issued at noon today shows that up to and including the lists published on January 3, a total of 810S casualties have been reported in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. These comprise 1101 officers and men killed in action, 540 died of wounds, 217 died of disease, 2 died from causes known, 32 (including 10 nurses) drowned, 656 missing, 22 prisoners of war, and 5484 wounded. This gives a total of 1946 dead. The details are as under:— Officers. Men. SOUTH ISLAND IMPROVES SLIGHTLY. Wellington, January 10. Figures showing the percentages of recruits contributed by each of the four military districts tor the week ended January 8 were issued by the Defence Department to-day. They show that southern districts are still failing to provide full quotas of recruits, though both Canterbury and Otago have made slight improvement jn this respect. The North Island contributed 70.32 per cent, of the total number of recruits, although its quota on the basis of the number of men of military age was only 60.S per cent. OVER 600 MEN. Auckland, Yesterday. Six hundred and thirty-five men oi the Twelfth Reinforcements, and probationary non-coms, for the Fourteenth, left by the three o'clock train for southern camps to-day. THE TWELFTHS. NQW BEING MOBILISED. Wellington, Yesterday. The 12th Reinforcements, comprising •2200 men, are now being mobilised. In place oj assembling the whole draft at TrenthSm, as on previous occasions, the men are now being sent to three camps, the Mounted Rifles, Army Service Corps and Veterinary Corps sections going to Tauherenikau, .the Artillery, Engineers, Signallers and Infantry to Trentham, and the Ambulance section to Awapuni. The assembling of the various quotas from all over New Zealand will be commenced to-day.

PRISONERS IN TURKEY. LETTERS AND PARCELS. Wellington, Yesterday. The High Commissioner cables that letters and parcels for prisoners in Turkey should be sent to tne International Rod Cross Committee, Geneva, for transmission. They go post free. Remittances not exceeding £3 should be sent by international money-order, payable to the International Red Cross Committee at Geneva, with fujl name and number of regiment of prisoner. Letters should not exceed four lines.
