THE RECAPTURE OF CZERNOWITZ CZAR AT THE FRONT * Received .Tan. D, 5.3 p.m. J'etrogj-ad, Jan. 8. The Russians' main attack at Czernowitz was preceded by a bombardment. Four hundred guns for fifty hours rained shells continuously on the town, and the infantry charge followed immediately.

A communique reports: The enemy drove us out of Czarlorysk, hut we counter-attacked and recaptured the town, which we have held firmly since. Our troops in the middle Strypa" region captured sections of the enemy's position', taking over a thousand prisoners. Desperate enemy counter-attacks with large forces, north-east of Czernowitz, were all repulsed with enormous enemy losses.'
