A GERMAN ATTACK. (BOMBARDING THE SAND DIUNES. Berlin, Jan. 3. A German official message states that the troops attacked between La Bassee •nd Bethune on a wide front. The occupants of one enemy trench were buried 1»y the explosion of a mine. Some were shot and others fled. Paris, Jan. 3. Official: A bombardment by field artillery on the sand dunes region started on January 1 and blew up two German munition depots. In the Argonne our batteries dispersed the Germans on the road between Avoncourt and Malancourt. At Hartmanns Weilerkopf, following • violent bombardment by the enemy, we retired along a front of 200 metres ■Outh of Rehfelsen. The enemy did not attempt an infantryvattack. , GERMAN OFFICIAL REPORT. Berlin, Jan. 3. A German official message states that the French artillery shelled Lutterbach, killing a girl and wounding a woman and some children. On the Eastern front there have been minor engagements in which the Russiwere unsuccessful.
