—1 —J* — THE NEW OFFENSIVE. BATTLE OF INCREASING VIOLENCE. Vienna,, Dec. 31. A communique states: "The battles in Eastern Galicia are increasing in extent and violence. The enemy's attacks yesterday were directed at Bessarabia; also east of Oik on the Lower and Middle Strypa. The Russian advance chiefly failed under fire from our batterieß. Otherwise, the storming columns collapsed under our machine-guns. Twelve hundred prisoners were taken vesterday."
