(By "Moturoa.") The Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting will be advanced another stage to-day, the Islington Plate and Summer Cup being the principal events. Desert Gold figures in the Plate, so nothing further need be said about that "race," The Summer Cup has drawn a disappointing acceptance of eight, and of these, Colonel Soult, on liis bold showing in the Auckland Cup on Monday, is likeiy to be very warmly supported. The Visitors' Handicap will see speedy sprinters like Cliakwana, King Lupin and Downliam in action, and on Railway Handicap form the top-weight reads remarkably well. Gold Necklet found a mile too far for her on Monday, but the Bowern Handicap .(six furlongs) may see her much favored to-day. The Toff won the Great Northern Foal Stakes so handsomely on the opening day that a rise of 81bs in the Criterion Handicap does not appear to be excessive. Bjorneborg won the Nursery Handicap with even more ease, but has gone up 1411)s. It should be an interesting "go." Wishful came from a long way back when lie won the Shortland Plate, and the bay son of Boniform will not want for backers in the Salisbury Welter. Loloma may prove dangerous. Vascular ran Naupata to threequarters of a length in the Grafton Hurdles, and is set to meet the Porirua torse on 91b3 better terms to-day. The shorter distance should also be in favor of the Karamu candidate. Some owners have money to burn! Out of 65 horses weighted for the Summer Cup, only eight were paid up for. This year's Auckland Cup proved to be a race worthy of the 2650 sovs offered in stakes. 'The features of the contest were Balboa's brilliant victory over a brace of high-class lightweights, and the breakdown of the crack mare Warstep. The latter mishap robs the w.fa. races at the meeting of considerable interest, her meeting with Desert Gold in the Islington Plate being looked forward to as the most interesting contest at the gathering. Mr. C. G. Dalgety will have the sympathy of all "sports" at losing—temporarily only, it is hoped —the services of such a fine all-round performer. The bracketed pair, Warstep and Snub, carried most money in the Auckland Cup, but Colonel Soult, Balboa and Blackall were all heavily backed. The only seratchings were Merry Roe and Christine, thirteen horses going to the post. Colonel Soult delayed the start, but eventually Mr. Charlie O'Connor sent them away in perfect line. Self at once dashed to the front, but Warstep could not be restrained and 'dashed up to the light-weight at the end of a furlong. Passing the stand the order was Self, Warstep, Sir Solo, Maniaroa and El Gallo, with Blackall and Balboa well back. Warstep sprung a tendon as they ran up the hill near the "Ladies' Miie," and her stablemate Snub dashed into second place. Half a mile from home Colonel Soult ran up to third, and Balboa and Blackall came through slowly. At the turn Colonel Soult made his dash, and quickly headed the field, but it was only a spasmodic effort, for Snub came again, and Balboa and Blackall threw out challenges. The last-named fought out a neck and neek finish, Balboa just getting home. Snub was half a length away, with Colonel Soult, El Gallo, Maniaroa and Self next,
