Two. New Plyomuth man—A. W< Mason and F. Hagenson—who returned from the Dardanelles by the Mannganui,, arrived in New Plymouth, by the mall train last night. The .men were met by the Mayor (Mr. C. H. Burgess) who extended a welcome to them on behalf of the citizens. Mr Joshua Williams was buried at Hove. Hon. Tlios. Mackenzie, Sir James Mills, Messrs James Coatee, D. McLean, and Moss Davis were present. A wreath, on behalf of the Government and peo» pie of New Zealand, was inscribed: "In; affectionate remembrance of a beloved I and honored Surpeme Court Judge."-! Cable. Mr. P. J. L. Kenny, of Sydney, nu been appointed to tho position of gen« eral secretary of the Auckland branch of the Young Men's Christian Association, which was left vacant by the re» cent resignation of Mr. J. B. MTCinnw. The new secretary, who is 35 rear* ft age, is the son of a New South W«le» Methodist minister. A Press Association telegram from Dunedin states that Mr. Andrew M'Kerrow, a pioneer settler in the Hampden district, died suddenly on Saturday. He was for many years, and up to. the time oi his death, a member of the Education Board. He was alsO a member of the Land Board, retiring from tho latter on his appointment as Chief Land Valuer for the Otago district. The late Mr, M'Kenow was a younger brother of Mr. Jas. M'Kerrow, head of the Land Pur* chase Board.
Corporal Frederick Ernest Gladding, who died in the Palmerston North Hos« pital after an operation, was a wellknown ex-footballer and sprinter, and representative of the Hawke's Bay League on the Council of the New Zealand Rugby League. He was a marHed man with two children. Deceased went through the South 'African campaign, and was an active Northern Union player several years ago, when he played for Auckland City Rovers. He a!6b won many races as a professional sprinter.
