THE CASUALTY LISTS, NEW ZEALAND'S LOSSES. TOTAL OVER 8000. In the circumstances under which the New Zealanders have been fighting in Gallipoli, it is not surprising that the casualties have been heavy. In the first five weeks of the campaign the casualties in the New Zealand division, which landed 85'43 strong, were 4250. According to the 252 official casualty lists issued by the New Zealand Government the number of officers and men killed, wounded and missing to date is approximately 8023. The details of the killed and wounded, which total 7371, are as follows: \
In addition to the above, 22 officers and 630 non-commissioned officers and men have been reported "missing." A number of these have been stated to be prisoners of war at Constantinople. The British transports Southland and Marquette were torpedoed by submarines in the Aegean Sea. About half-a-dozen New Zealanders in the Southland lost their lives. Ten New Zealand "ifurses, who were in the Marquette, were drowned. The Southland was beached after being torpedoed.
