RETURNED SOLDIERS.
CERTAIN CONCESSIONS GRANTED,
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Dee. 22. A soldiers' handbook containing ft great (leal of important information vu issued to-day by the Defence Depart* mont for general circulation. Ameng other tilings provision ismade, coming into opo,j.tion immediately, thai a returned soldier 011 leave is entitled to travel free 011 all Government railways for a period of three weeks commencing from the date on which he receives bis leave prior to reporting in a training camp, or before his linal discharge. The coneesscion is not granted to soldiers undergoing treatment or on sick leave, as it is desired they should rest until they are entirely fit. The Medical Board however, has power to recommend soldiers to travel. Soldiers travelling on these tickets are entitled te free meals on dining cars. Convalescent returned soldiers bftve the right to become out-patients of ft public hospital in certain cases, but they must be provided with certificates. When a soldier is on sick leave the Ds» partment grants him a lodging allow* ance of two shillings a day during such, period, which can be drawn at the lame time as ordinary pay.
